If your CPU gets a score of 4.8 wouldn't it be pointless to upgrade the rest of your hardware to 5.9?

If the cpu is 4.8 would it be a waste of money to get high end parts like mega graphics super fast system ram?

Best to keep all hardware in the 4's and save some money?

  1. It would not be pointless, but the benefit you would experience from the upgrade would not be all that much better from getting everything else up 4.8.

Depending on what you are looking to do, certain areas will see a great benefit from being ranked at 5.9. If you are a gamer, then you should look at upgrading your Graphics Card and RAM; your processor should have enough juice as it is. The same rules apply for picture or video editing.

If this computer serves more as  a general office duty machine (internet, word, excel, etc) then you should upgrade your hard drive and RAM. Actually, if thats all you use it for, then whatever you have in it now should be fine.

If everything you have runs whatever applications you use at a fast enough speed for you, the don't bother upgrading. Wait until you need to, and do all the research you can on the part before you buy it. You'll save a lot of time and money that way.

    I hope this helped.

  2. I assume you're referring to Vista scores.

No, it wouldn't be pointless.  While at some point your resources will bottle neck, a processor with that high of a score would likely not show it.

Plus graphics cards usually have their own ram and processors, they are pretty independent of other scores.

    Fast RAM never hurts.  EVER.

For most home users though 4 is high enough, so why are you considering upgrading?

  3. Theoretically, your correct.

In practice, you couldn't be more wrong.

If it was a true bottleneck, everything else would only perform at 4.8, and clearly that is not the case. Even though these ratings show a lot for VISTA performance, it shows very little for GAMING performance.
