  1. Many people receive the host only and do not partake in the wine.

  2. If a priest that is a recovering alcoholic gets a waiver from the bishop to use grape juice instead of wine in the consecration of the Eucharist...  Then, a parishioner, that is a recovering alcoholic, should skip the sacramental wine altogether.

  3. I think many would not take the wine, just the host

  4. No.  You just take the wafer.  This is no problem.  When I have a cold, I don't drink the wine because I don't want everyone else to get sick.  I hope everyone else does that too!  There's no reason to drink the wine if it might cause you problems.

  5. Normally, everyone will receive the Body of Christ at Communion. Not everyone, for their own personal reasons, will also receive the Blood of Christ.

I would imagine that recovering alcoholics will avoid the Blood of Christ - and that's okay because the Graces bestowed upon a recipient of the Body of Christ (only) is the same as one who receives both Body and Blood of Christ.

  6. the priest will have replaced the wine with the grape juice to prevent any problems.

  7. No.  When you get to the person offering wine, you cross your hands over your chest or shake your head to indicate that you don't want the wine.  The clergy are very understanding about this, and it is not a problem.  You could also ask at your church if it has some particular way to signal that you want the Host, only.
