  1. they really dont have the right...but it is their job to check into why you are out roaming around. they are there to protect and serve. they are probably not meaning to harass you but more concerned...not knowing if your parents know where u r. up until you are 18...you do not have the right to just go roaming all over town without your parents being present. its safety reasons.

  2. I am not sure about the parent at home thing.  I would think at fourteen it would be okay for you to be alone for a few hours each day, though I don't think ALL day would be a good idea.

As far as the truant officer thing, it really depends on where you live.  There are some states that have a daytime curfew saying that kids should not be "roaming the streets" during school hours, if you live where they have one I think you'd need a parent with you.

Getting a homeschool I.D. might help some, but then the officer might just think its a fake.

  3. If you're old enough to legally be home by yourself (I believe different areas have different laws, where I live it's 13), then no, your parents don't have to supervise you.  You are still accountable to them, but you are considered old enough to supervise yourself.

Different cities also have different rules about truancy.  The city council in nearby city tried to pass truancy laws that would have made it illegal for kids of school age to be out during school hours, period.  However, we've got three different school districts, four private schools, and several hundred homeschooling families in the same city.  None of them have the same schedule, so that one didn't fly.  (Too hard to enforce.)

What I would suggest is to have your parents get you a homeschool id.  You can get them from several sources - I believe HSLDA links to some - and you can show it to anyone that might stop you.

    Hope that helps!

  4. My son is 17 and when he has his school work done he goes

downtown to the library to go online. And if he was stopped

he tells them he is homeschooled and can call parents to

verify. He loves it when he gets his work done early and can

rome around town or go to other friends that are home.

  5. We homeschool our 15 year old.  We are a two income household.  He goes with his stepdad to work 2-3 days a week and does his assignments at his workplace.  The other days he stays home and does household chores and school work.  He does the household chores so it gives me time to go over assignments with him and for me to do 'teaching' if needed.  It works for us.

  6. It'll depend on the laws where you live but I'm fairly sure that anywhere in Canada, the US or UK, cops won't consider you truant for walking around during the day (or at least, if they think you are, they won't be able to prove it since you are a homeschooler) and there are plenty of teens who are home alone doing their homeschooling work.

  7. My son is 16 and my daughter is 13. I leave them for 2 hours every morning to go to the gym & run errands. They act responsibly and do chores & schoolwork while I'm gone, then I help them with questions when I get home.

My son travels freely in the community to his piano lesson, to the library, the store, on his bike, on the bus or walking on weekdays. Usually its after noon, and he's never been stopped. We do not have a daytime curfew law for teens in our town. If he were stopped, he'd just say his school isn't in session, and call me if needed.

  8. I am 12 and home schooled, and my mom assigns me 'home' work and when she gets off of work we look over it and do more work.

  9. i'm 16 and homeschooled. both my parents work. i've gone out at all hours of the day, and only once a police man stopped me. i told him i was homeschooled and he said ok and drove off. i teach myself, the only things my mom does is grade my papers and send off my transcripts to wherever and what not.

  10. Yeah, iv`e always wanted to be home schooled But, I can`t because, I don`t know really =l But anways.

I realize Making frriends and having a life is the best Choice

But don`t get me wrong, I would love to be home schooled..

  11. hey I'm 16 homeschool, and i am home alone with two of my siblings that are to young to go to school, there are eight kids in my family, i am the eldest, we were all homeschooled up until about a month ago, my parents are getting a divorse, my mom had to get a job, and she had to put all the kids in school, i decided to stay home, so my mom wouldn't have to pay for a baby sitter, with seven other kids that would be way to expensive. on the days that my mom has off i usually walk or ride a bike around town, and i see lots of police officers no one has ever stopped me most of them wave, or ask how i'm doing. i don't think they can make you go home.

has a cop ever told you to go home?

  12. an adult supervisor might be required, you have to check the local social welfare laws

  13. I'm not sure. I'm 13...and home schooled. But my mom's in the other room the whole time...so...I'm not sure.

  14. no laws or rules.

  15. I guess it all depends on where you live and what the local laws are.  We were members of HSLDA just to be on the safe side, but we never had any problems. Of course I was usually always with my son since he was younger, 10 or 11 at the time.

There are some homeschool ID cards that you can get online; I like this one:

    www.homeschoolid.com/

Or you can type in Homeschool ID Cards on Google or some other search engine, to see others.  That way, if you get stopped, you can have proof that you are homeschooled.  Hope this helps; good luck!
