Say for instance you have a 940 lb. HD RoadGlide, can you pick it up yourself?

I know the proper way to pick up a bike, I'm wondering if people can actually do it.

List your bike, it's weight if possible and yes or no, and some opinion if you need to.

  1. I ride a 2007 Harley Davidson RoadGlide, that weights in at 670 lbs, I can pick it up. I went to a special class where they taught us how to do it. you need to first lock your front wheel, then put your back against the seat and lift with your legs while leaning into the bike with your back. it is not easy, but can be done. with some effort.

  2. Yeah you should be able to pick up your own bike. If not them the bike is to big for you. Honda shadow 1100 I think about 600 pounds.

  3. 2001 BMW F650GSD, about 425 lbs.

Yes, I can pick it up.  Have done so many times off-road (including 6 times in one day on a really rainy dual-sport ride).

If you know the proper technique, ANYONE can pick up ANY bike.

    1.  Go to the side of the downed bike that the seat is on.

    2.  Turn around so your butt is facing the seat.

    3.  squat so your butt is up against the seat.

    4.  Grasp the handlebar with one of your hands

    5.  Grasp somewhere on the back of the bike with the other.

    6.  Taking small steps, back up while lifting with your hands.  If it's difficult, try adusting the angle of your legs a little.  Don't rush, as it's very easy to get the bike past the center of gravity on the other side.

I've seen sub-100 lb. women pick up a BMW K1200LT by themselves, with no particular strain using this method.

  4. without a problem, I layed it over just yesterday to demonstrate the maximum rideable lean angle to some friends

460 lbs since the exhaust swap...

  5. If you cant pick it up by yourself you should not be riding a big that big

  6. 07 H-D Sportster ,600lbs and yes I can did it about a year ago with a fractured ankle that I didn't know I had until making it to the doctor's office the following day

  7. My neighbor has a big touring BMW, it fell on him and he coulnd't get it off, his wife tried but couldn't. Luckily for him some driver pulled over adn helped him. My bike is a Suzuki Intruder 800, only weighs 440lbs so I have no problem picking mine up.

  8. night rod special 650lbs.... i can squat more than that so yes

  9. Yes. I have dropped my bike and managed to pick it up myself.

Its a 1997 Honda CB 400 and is approximately 185 kilos dry.

I do have a few biker friends that cannot pick up their own bikes. They are awkward things to lift and I can only just pick mine up so I can understand why people can't life theirs.

  10. Haven't had to pick mine up yet ('02 Electraglide). With the crash bars, I think I could get it to a decent angle where I could upright it without too much ball strain.

My sister has a Low Rider that I had to pick up a couple of times without any trouble.

  11. Well, I have a 2003 Kawasaki Vulcan 800 Classic (VN800B).  Its dry weight is 516 lbs and with fuel, saddle bags, and a tank bag, that adds on not too much more weight.  I have had to pick my  bike up from laying on it's side and had no trouble.  I would fear for those that ride a Honda Goldwing or a loaded down BMW R1200GS (those bike can get realy heavy real fast).

  12. Schwin 25 pounds

  13. I dont thinks so?

  14. havent tried lately, last time was 2 years ago when I backed it out of the garage after spending a weeks time & $170 on materiel painting it.

I tripped & dropped it on a broken concrete block . I yanked it right back up by the bars.

it weighs 640, doubt I could do that if I was calm & in my right mind. but I'm seldom in that condition anyway so I guess the answer is yes.

  15. Kawasaki Voyager XIII, 960 pounds, more with touring stuff in the trunk and saddlebags,  dropped it last year, yes picked it up without suffering a hernia or ruptured disc, fortunately no one saw me

  16. i ride a 650lb Harley Night Train, and yes, i can pick it up.

  17. I've picked up my 750 cc vulcan at 500 pounds with no problems.   I am pretty darn sure I could pick up my 700 pound Dyna.  Shoot the Road Glide has more spots to grab while picking it up with proper techniqe and this bike when fallen will be at a greater angle from the ground with all the accessories: crashbars and saddlebags; You really wouldn't have far to push it up.  At 789 pounds, more places to grab, and less distance to push the RoadGlide would probably be easier to pick up  than my Dyna, lol

Here is a gal picking up her RoadKing loaded top heavy with all her gear for a trip from Florida to Canada.
