If your boot pulls away from the sole, can it be repaired? Superglue maybe?

These are Riedell Blue ribbon skates for an eight year old that is still growing so I don't want to buy her another pair of the same size. She got her blade caught and it pulled the whole heal off the boot!

  1. Most likely not. My mom (and coach and pro skate seller) had a client that had this problem, but they tried all kinds of stuff including Shoe Glue but it didn't work. It was a result of not wiping the moisture off all the way. And the client stored her skates in her bag without letting them air out.

  2. NO NO NO!!!

Do not Superglue it. That will only make it worse. You see, its no wood at the bottom but leather, and leather is alive (active cultures) so gluing it will kill it and make the bottom worse.

First of all you should call the company if you have not yet to tell them about it. Perhaps you could get something back, there might have been a warranty.

If there is not, then I would say to get new ones. And if you think that its just that she is a ruff skater, then perhaps not riedells yet, something a little cheaper to get started.

Then I would say when she starts working on jumps, then go back to Riedells. If your daughter is already doing jumps, then it might have fallen off because of the pressure. If the boot level is too low, then it will break. Its like trying to to do a triple axel on hockey skates from a public session.

Long story short, dont glue them. Call the company to ask also, they would know what to do better than I would.

Hope that helped. Happy skating to your eight year old.

  3. Blue Ribbon skates have PVC (plastic) soles so it would be OK to glue them for short term use.  Be sure to use waterproof glue.  Also make sure that you dry the skate boot and sole in addition to the blades after each time she skates.

  4. there is a product called shoo goo that is kind of like rubber cement and is good for fixing the problem you have. i have used it on my hiking boots and it held for about two years of intense use - water, heat, and walking up and down rock faces.

  5. Whatever you do DONT FIX THEM YOURSELF or let her skate in them while they are like that. They can be fixed.  Blue Ribbon are used up to basic 3 for a USFSA basic skill program anything higher you are pushing it!  I've seen this happen before with the lower series of Riedells seen it with the older series not the new ones but it can be possible that you bought the old series from your local skate shop. Here is a listing  of the discontinued model from Riedell (292/29 Gold Medallion – Compared to today’s Riedell model  (Blue Ribbon)121 (found on this link  http://www.riedellskates.com/ice/121.htm... for current style)

This boot’s design, light weight and great lateral support are ideal for learning single jumps, spins and step sequences. Key features include triple reinforcement, dual density quarter padding, smooth impregnated split leather lining, rubber midsoles and leather outsoles.)

The shops still have them in there inventory. Compare your boots with the ones listed on the  Official Riedell site, http://www.riedellskates.com/home.html  if they don't look the same for the model  listed then the ones you have then you have the older version also all of the new models are heat moldable which the old versions werent. Riedell went back to the drawing board a couple of years ago  back in 2003 or 04 and changed the line of skates and how they constructed them, changed the look and added new features that aren't found on the old versions. I've seen most of the time the skater was a much higher level then what the boots were made for. Either way a skate pro shop that does more then sharpening can repair them as well as your local shoe repair shop. Ask around the pro coaches should know they usually go to a sharpener that really knows what they are doing cause the blades of higher level skaters are sharpened a certain way then beginner skates. They should know of a place in your surrounding area. Do contact Riedell though cause that shouldn't happen I cant see how she did that by getting the blade stuck and she achieved this how? Unless she got stuck in superglue or cement lol cant see it happening under normal use. What I mentioned before was seen on kids that were doing double jumps on beginner to mid level stock boots and blade sets from Jackson.

  6. contact riedell they will fix them for u or go to rainbow/send them in to rainbow

  7. I would not use super glue. It might come apart from the sole while she is doing a jump or spin. That could cause her to get hurt.
