yep it's still official. if he asks and you say yes, they you are engaged. lots of people don't propose with a ring. one of my friends recently got engaged with no ring because they don't have alot of money

my husband asked my father to marry me then asked me to marry him before he gave me the ring. When he did give me my ring it was still so special even tho we were already engaged. Trust me iif he asks its official!!!!! GOOD luck 2 u!

If you reply "yes," it is an agreement and is therefore official.

As others have mentioned, the ring does not seal the deal, the meaning and commitment behind the agreement it does.

Yes. I know it's hard but try not to get caught up in the whole ring thing. As soon as you both agree to marry each other then the engagement is official. NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE SAYS!!! Congratulations! And you never know you might get the ring that you've been dreaming of later. That's what happened to me and it was worth the wait!

Well if you are in love with him. Then a piece of jewlery shouldnt matter. I bought my girlfriend a ring for Christmas and its a Pre-engagement. Everybody still thinks im nuts because they have never heard of it before.

Butt back to your question.. If you consider a ring to show everyone that you are serious, Then yes it matters.

If not i would have to say no.

Absolutely. My friend's husband proposed to her without the ring because it just happened to be a beautiful sunset and too perfect a moment to pass up. He gave her the ring later.

yes, but why was there no engagement ring?  was it b/c it was a "spur of the moment" kind of proposal or did he actually plan it w/out a ring?  i know you prob won't be able to find out for sure, but i'd think about that if i were you.....unless he has no money, if there was no engagement ring, i would be worried that the guy didn't want to spend any money on me i would just be up front and ask the dude about if he has any plans to buy an engagement ring.........
