It depends on which country you live in and which company your son selects.  Rotary, AFS, YFU, and ASSE don't require you to host.  The reason you don't have to host is because someone else will host for you.  It all works out!

No not usually. But it depends on which program you go through.

No, usually you sign up to do that seperatly. Although, it is a really good experience. If you host a student from where you kid is going, you too get to be part of the learning experience. =]
