If your child was not walking by one year when did they start walking?

Question

Nolan just turned one on Saturday and he has no interest in walking. He scoots on his butt and will stand if you help him to his feet (minimal cruising). My doctor says that as long as he is walking by 15 months she is not concerened. If your child was NOT walking by 1 when did they start walking?

When I started dateing my husband his son was 1. He didnt start walking til he was 18 months. Didnt have no interest. They'll walk when their ready. Just keep encouraging him as much as possible.

Rylee was about 14 months when she decided to start walking. She just wasn't interested in it. She finally got good at it when she was about 15 months. It wasn't that we weren't working with her, she just didn't want to.

Plus, I've heard that the longer a baby crawls the smarter they will be. Not sure if this is true for everyone, but I know that my child is very intelligent and I've been around alot of super smart kids. Who knows maybe we are just raising super smart kids these days.

One of my kids didn't walk till 14 months.  

He's quite the sprinter, soccer player, and general athlete now.  :-)  Don't worry about it at all.

My daughter started standing on her own by one but didn't start walking until she was thirteen monthes. All babies are different and my nephews didn't start walking until they were about 16 monthes. Give him some time he will learn.

The week after his first birthday. I've worked in childcare though and I've seen kids who walked at 8 months and kids who walked at 18 months. So don't worry just yet, all babies are different. =]

My daughter is only 8 months, But i know that i didnt walk until 14 months, My little brother was 13 months, Sister was 9 months (Theres not much age diff between my little brother & sister, so i think she watched him learning, and thought she would have ago lol) I think my mum said my older brother was also around 13-14months.

My oldest daughter walked at 8 months and my oldest son was 13 months. As long as your doctor doesnt see a problem, I wouldnt worry.

Between 14 - 15 months for both my kids, my nephew walked just before 18 months.

Both of mine started at about 13 to 14 months. It sounds like he needs a little push. Both of mine saw other kids walking and they both just got up and started walking the next day. Give him a little time.....Good Luck!!!

My son was a really slow developer and wasn't even crawling till just after his first birthday.

He started walking at 16 months. They say you should contact the doctor if they aren't walking by 18 months.

My son is nearly 2 now and you can't tell that he was slower than the rest, he runs about with the best of them!

as long as they are walking by 15mths they're fine. most kids don't really WALK by their first birthday. My son started wanting to walk on his own by 13mths, and by 14mths he was adept with his own two feet...has been walking ever since, even dabbling in the act of running (much to mommy's dismay :P lol).

My first son started walking within days of his 1st birthday.  My second son didn't start walking until he was 16 1/2 months.  However, my second son has an amazing vocabulary. is very imaginative, and way ahead of other kids his age.   Don't worry too much!

My daughter was physically delayed so she didn't walk until just before her 2nd birthday- when she finally did I cried from joy. My son was 15 months old when he walked on his own. We tend to have late walkers in our family.

I started walking at 12 months myself. I made up for it by having 10x the vocabulary that a child that age is expected to :)

My daughter started walking at 13 months.  We very rarely put her on the floor as she was our first child and had two big dogs.  So she didn't crawl much or cruise much either.  We were traveling in Europe when she started walking as she was down more with the dogs not around.

My son started walking freely at 13months, for quite a few months before he would cruise around quickly and stand up from crawling in the middle of the room but not move! When he did this i sat infront of him with my arms open and encouraged him everytime and before we knew it he was confident enough to try it, it went from a few steps to, walking across the room, to walking everywhere! I wouldn't worry, my sisters son is 13 months old and barely cruises, infact he doesn't, he just pulls himself up on things and stands still, they are all different, he will get there eventually, believe me, you will have your hands full when he does start! So just enjoy him how he is and encourage him so he gets the confidence, good luck :)
