Could there be viruses still lurking like ghosts? LOL.. Seriously , It took a great deal of effort.. I had to restore and spent nearly half a day to start my computer and get it working. My son had to take his to the shop. because he would not take his mother's advise and do a complete sweep restore.. The shop wound up doing the restore anyway.. as they could not get the junk and malicious spyware out..AND MY SON PAID .. FOR RESTORE PLUS A NEW BURNER ( BURNER OK ( BUT FULL RESTORE ) HE COULD HAVE DONE) LESSONS COST MONEY. LISTEN TO MOMMY KIDS> LOL )Advise Please. ( There was a storm and both of our computers were infected with ADULT WARE..WHY?

Should be buy something. re this problems? Is this common? re Storm or was it just a virus. Should be get any excellent protection. We have Norton Anti Virus/ etc. Thank Computer Genius Geeks

  1. A storm infected both computers ADULT WARE??? Impossible. The only thing a storm can do is cause a power surge that can be prevented with a surge protector.

Norton's Antivirus 'may' stop spyware. Depends on which antivirus you have. Norton Antivirus and Internet Security OR Norton's 360 can stop spyware. Otherwise you need anti-spyware installed. Here's a link to a free one: http://lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_fr...

  2. Formatting & re install of your OS would give you a clean PC.

The only thing you can get from a storm is a power surge that why you have a Surge Protector ? Yes.

ADULT WARE is spyware, look at your antispyware programs again for more protection or e mail me for help.

  3. you must have a good antivirus and spyware protection for your computer. most of the antivirus software do nt protect your computer from others threats.

  4. Doing a complete computer restore will rid your computer of any viruses and spy ware. Viruses are generally much easier to get rid of by having a Anti Virus application. However, spy ware are a lot more difficult. Usually the only solution to get rid of these is to do a restore, in which you have already done.

However, to protect your computer from such an event, make sure you use an Anti Virus (Norton, McAfee, etc), BUT you also need something to prevent spy ware. Such as, Windows Defender - it's the best kind and from a trust worthy source. Generally, you can "Google" anti spy ware software and download them, however some of them can actually do more harm than good, as they come bundle with spy ware themselves.

    Prevention is the key:

    1. Protect your computer using Anti Virus and Spyware applications

    2. Don't click on popups

    3. Don't download software and files from untrusted websites.

    4. If downloading software, do a custom install whenever possible, and uncheck all the additional toolbars (these are secret spyware causing applications) that comes bundled with the applications.

  5. Others have addressed the restoring of the hard drive, and security and software.

Now lets address the Adultware issue.  Mom you have a son.  Where do you really think it came from?  And no, one of his friends didn't come over and use the computers when you weren't home.

At least ask him not to use yours.
