  1. Whichever gear my driving skills and instinct tells me to be in. Which you should be using too, if you're in charge of a car on a road.

  2. 5th gear baby :P

  3. mexican overdrive.

  4. all depends on speed and angle of the road.....

  5. I select a gear that allows the car to either maintain its speed without any braking, or one that decelerates the car slightly if the next one up will not maintain the speed. The brakes could get too hot if you brake for a long period of time and will therefore be less efficient when you need to use them. It also puts unneccessary wear and tear on the brake linings. This gear selection technique also allows you to be in the correct gear to accelerate (if necessary) when the road flattens out. Remember that the higher rpms provide greater engine braking.

  6. Yep!, leave it in drive and cover the brake.

  7. As a hyper-miler, none.

  8. One that provides an amount of engine braking, to save the hassle of flashing the brake lights to avoid the back of the car in front.

    So not fifth.

4th is ok on shallow hills (if you're in a pokey micra like me) - I use it a lot. Does depend on the situation and car etc, so +rep for the common sense answer above :D

And also for the ones that amused me.

  9. Depends if theres a speed camera around. I usually just let the car accelerate as it wants in whatever gear it was already in.

  10. Drive...lol

  11. Well that all depends on the gradient and length of the hill. I prefer to change down so that the engine is doing most of the braking rather than using the footbrake all the time. After all, the most powerful brake on any powered vehicle is the engine so proper use of the gears is recommended.

  12. A nice shirt, jeans and trainers sounds cool, thats what the "in" crowd use. Brrrm Brrrm.
