  1. No, they really don't have to, they can, but the writer won't learn anything from it. A good editor will talk to you about what was wrong about your lead and will coach you so that you fix it yourself. Just changing it doesn't help the writer but coaching them to fix it will.


  2. yes I think the editor must ask me first because I'm the one editor has chosen for the lead so he should tell me.
