'Cause I'm thinking about this Sci-Fi story and thought it would be interesting if this alein species' visible spectrum was out far enough to catch Ultraviolet and Infra-red stuff.

  1. Yes, somewhere beyond purple.

Some insects that eat at night can see UV and are attracted to white flowers. Ones that can see visible colors go to them during the day

  2. yep

  3. if i could see UV style id probly see if u could see thru ppls clothes 1st. [~:

  4. well if u could see ultraviolet light then u couldnt be able to see bcause ultra violet light gives u cancer and it is everyway.....but yet again it would be pretty kool if u could do that

  5. yes and no.

depends on whether the rods or cones were seeing it.

rods, no.  just a shade of gray.

    cones, probably yes.

  6. guess so just maybe the clour would be very weird

  7. You don't have to go to SF to answer this, because there are people who can see ultraviolet.  They are people who've had cataracts removed; the lens of the human eye is a yellow filter, and if it is removed and another filter isn't added (e.g. in a replacement lens), the eye can see well into the UV.  It looks violet, IIRC.

Some insects also have specific color receptors for UV (which humans don't have).

  8. well you got that from me,. but why would someone want a new color , when ever it wouldnt fit into the natural earth sstem?., i dont think so,. i think peopl will have to learn to die first!

  9. yea lol youd see invisible **** and everything would be green and black

  10. exactly it would be a bigger range for the visible spectrum and there would be new colours

  11. Colors exist only in our minds.  Light comes in different frequencies, not different colors.  If your UV-sensitive eyeball were hooked up to a UV-interpreting brain, you would experience new colors.  Same with the infrared end of the spectrum.
