Question:

If your family dentist tells you to see a specialist...?

... is he supposed to give you a list of specialists, or should you find him/her on your own?

The reason I ask is because my dentist said I should see a TMJ (jaw) specialist. The assistant told me that my dentist said to see Dr. X. I told her I didn't want to see Dr. X because in the past he had not helped me at all, and she said that was the only one she knew. And that was it. I've been looking on my own.

Is this how it should be or not?
