  1. usually parents if someone comes to your house its basically like getting tutored i am unschooled so i teach myself things by doing them

  2. I was homeschooled for several years, and I did a program on the PC - not online, on CD Rom. I also did some workbooks - it just depends

  3. Personally, neither.

I'm a natural learner (unschooler) and an auto-didact so I 'teach' myself whatever I wish to learn whilst my parents (and others) act as mentors, not teachers.

There is no single way to homeschool/be home-educated. Every family and every kid has the opportunity to learn in the way that best suits their needs be it from a parent; a govie; a visiting teacher; a tutor; a 'school at home' type programme; 'virtual teachers' on the internet or DVDs; wholly independently; or any combination of these and the many other other available means of being home-educated.

The first poster confuses home-education with homebound education though; having teachers from your school come to teach you at home when you can't get into school is not being homeschooled. Similarly, people often confuse 'doing distance education' (for instance cyber school programmes) with 'being home-educated' simply because they may both be studying at home.

Homeschoolers are not defined by how they learn or who teaches them or where they study but by virtue of NOT being registered with any sort of outside school (whether that be a public or private or independent or charter or correspondence or cyber school); instead their parent(s) take responsibility for the organising of their education whether that means they teach their kids themselves, employ a govie or tutor, trust their kids to direct their own education, arrange for a visiting teacher, provide a 'school-in-a-box' programme or whatever.

  4. Homeschool is when you and  your parents guide your education.

If you are in public school sponsored programs then the government is   guiding your education.

We homeschool in a relaxed-eclectic style and I assign work for my son.  We use many online college lectures.  We use educational tv and videos.   We read and do research on subjects of interests.

  5. There's no one way to homeschool; it's not a standardized system like public schools.

I'm doing a mix of independent study, online AP classes, and tutors, but I don't know how much longer the tutoring is going to last.

A close friend of mine is very rigidly taught by her parents. They have lessons every day, *and* they give her homework, which I think is a bit extreme.

  6. It can be eigther or.  I use a DVD system but my mom is there if I need help.  I have friends that their mom teaches them. Other people have someone come to the house and teach.  It really depends on what the parents want.

  7. most often your parent(s) teach you.

  8. I homeschool my granddaughter and nephew.  They come to my house to learn.  We have a mini classroom set up and it's theirs to decorate for learning!

  9. someone comes to your house and teaches you..

  10. With home school your parents generally teach you. There are some who can afford private tutors.

Home bound is for students who are enrolled in the public schools and have a teacher come to your home which is what the first person described.

  11. My sister and I basically taught ourselves.  My mom checked our work every week and I had a tutor for algebra but other than that....

  12. It depends on how you homeschool. If you decide to use an online charter school, you will have teachers that will help you. If you choose to buy curriculum then you might need the help of a parent.

Many online charter schools are popping up all over. Many of them are now using k12 products. k12 schoolsare good for many reasons. Each student is given a placement test and then given individualized curriculum based on his or her individual needs. With the help of online charter schools today, homeschooling can be much easier than it used to be. They provide you with everything you need, a computer, a printer, books, supplies, and teachers that you can both email and call for help and assistance. This is free and there are no charges. Online schools are definitely becoming a way of the future for the children in generations to come.

Going to an online school is no different than going to a traditional public school or a private school. They graduate with a real diploma the same as any school. My son graduated from an online charter school and now attends a private university (University Of Dayton) with scholarships. They will also help you with making sure that all state required tests are done yearly and proficiencies are completed for graduation.

  13. your parents can homeschool you or you can get a tutor.  I will be homeschooling my daughter this year.

  14. It's different for everyone. Some families have the parents do the teaching. Some have parents acting more as guides and giving the kids a push in the right direction so they can work independently. Some use online schools where the kids have teachers they can contact by phone or e-mail. Some have parents teach some subjects and other homeschool parents take over for subjects they're not good at (say...I'll teach your kid math if you teach mine history). Some families will make use of resources in the community. there are homeschool support groups that have co-op classes where groups of homeschoolers can be taught a few subjects each term by volunteer parents or teachers. This term, our local co-op is doing chemistry, drama, and japanese among a few others I can't remember. Then you have other classes and resources in the community. Some museums and science centers will have classes and educational activities for homeschoolers and sometimes public schoolers as well. Some music shops will have group music classes for homeschoolers, or even homeschool Band and Orchestra. Some community theaters will have drama programs you can enroll in. If you have a local art studio, you can sign up for art classes in a specific area. Zoos or wildlife preserves might hold environmental science classes, and local public libraries are always holding programs and activities to take advantage of. Some older homeschoolers (say 14 or 15) will have already started taking classes at a nearby community college or small university as a duel enrollment student as well. And still some families will find their child a tutor for certain subjects they may have trouble with. It all depends.

  15. There are as many different answers as there are homeschoolers.

Many homeschool students take a variety of classes, some specifically designed for them, some not.  Some do all of their learning with parents, some do none.  Some have tutors, most don't.

As a student grows, they acquire the skills needed to find their own resources and teachers, and to do much learning on their own.  Our child, for example, teaches herself math, takes science, art, music, PE and other classes within the community, and works together with a parent for a few things.

  16. it depends on what you want i had surgery in october and 2 teachers from my school came to my house to home school me for 2 months!
