  1. The prison chief will take your kidney while you are asleep and sell it on your behalf to satisfy your debts.

  2. Debt collection agencies will track down relitives.

  3. you wont go to jail

depends on the amount - i currently owe 8000  pounds, but havent paid -  and wont -  they send u letters  and ccj etc    and threaten you but realistically  -   its just your credit score that gets crucified -  i should know

  4. You can't go to jail for owing a debt. That would be like making poverty a crime. You can't lock up poor people just because they're poor. That'd be a really messed-up caste system. What can happen, though, is that you're credit report will be adversely affected.

  5. It all depends on what country you live in.  Debt collectors cannot transfer the debt onto relatives or chase them for payment - that would be illegal, they didn't borrow the money or sign on the dotted line!!  As for going to jail because of debt, this can happen in Ireland, don't know about UK although I have not heard of it over there.  In Ireland you may be served with a committal order for failure to adhere to a previous instalment order issued by the court.  Therefore you go to prison for contempt of court rather than just because you had a debt.

If you mean what would happen to your debts if you have to go to prison for a criminal charge then the best thing to do would be to sit down, look at your finances and see if any can be paid while you are inside.  Can your savings,if any, be used?  Can any relatives/friends pay on your behalf depending on the length of your sentence?  Contact your creditors also and let them know whats happening, try and arrange payment holidays so you can avoid being taken to civil court for non-payment of loans such as mortgage, credit cards etc.  Get as much info as possible from all your creditors and google any specific concerns you have.

    Hope this helps.
