I babysit 3 kids (6, 4, and 3) who hate bottom sheets in the summertime. they say laying on the matress is "cooler" (as in temperature-wise. their mom doesn't force them to have a bottom sheet, and for the past 2 mo. i haven't slept with one either. they're right, it is cooler. but why would you or would you not let your kids sleep in a bed with no bottom sheets?

  1. I wouldn't, it's much harder to clean the mattress than the sheet.  Sheets don't bring the body temperature up that much.  Even the cleanest kids have germs and sweat on them.  You'll either have to scrub mattresses at the end of the summer (and it's still pretty hard to do this thoroughly) or leave the bacteria there, inviting an icky infection down the line.

  2. The bottom sheet acts as a barrier for the mattress for all the dirt and sweat and dead skin cells.  You can pull the sheet off the mattress and wash it...you can't put the mattress in the wash!

  3. I wouldn't. I have this thing about having sheets on the bed though.... I always thought it felt gross just laying on a mattress. But even if my daughter wanted to, I would still have to keep a sheet on it. Mattresses get dirty even WITH a sheet on, much less with the sheet off and you can't put a mattress in the washing machine or scrub it clean and vacuuming it off, is not the same thing as washing it. Then you have the issue of it wearing the mattress out faster.

  4. My son is 14 and absolutely HATES bottom sheets...I really don't get it...but that is how it is, so I allow it...BUT he showers every night before bed so at least his mattress stays RELATIVELY clean!

  5. If they really wanted too then maybe once in a while if you know its going to be a very hot night. But not on a regualr basis because you can't put a matress in a washing machine but you can with a sheet. Yes it probably is cooler, but it can't make that much of s difference. Instead of having a devut than maybe they could use a sheet to keep them cooler but still have the bottom sheet.

  6. No.  Depending on their age there could be "accidents," but regardless of age, they would sweat, etc. onto the mattress which will not be good in the long run.

  7. The bottom sheet protects the mattress from getting dirty. You cant wash it, so , to be honest, its kinda nasty to just sleep on the mattress. I wouldnt let my kids do it. Especially at the ages of 6, 4 and 3, accidents can happen. The mattress will get ruined very quickly.

  8. i got sick and tired of constantly putting sheets on my son's bed, he just kickes them off. it's his mattress i don't have to sleep on it.

  9. No, I wouldn't

  10. I put bottom sheets on my kids beds and through all of their playing; several days later they're off again.  I gave up trying.

  11. Really depends on how clean the kids are before they lay down.  The bottom sheet helps to keep the mattress clean.  You can throw a sheet into the washing machine.  You can't do that with a mattress.

But, if their bodies & feet were clean, then I wouldn't really have a problem with it.

  12. I think that it is necessary for everyone to sleep on a sheet. I also have cloth mattress covers on all my mattresses. The sheet and cover helps to absorb the sweat so that it doesn't get into the mattress. After a few weeks of sleeping on the mattress without anything covering it the mattress will start to smell from all the sweat it is absorbing. Not to mention that you can't clean a mattress like you can a sheet so you are much more likely to have dust mites since you can't clean up the dead skin cells that get into the mattress. Also how is sleeping on a fabric covered mattress any cooler than sleeping on a sheet. I allow my children to sleep without top sheets but never without bottom ones.

  13. My kids asked to do that also, but I declined because sheets get washed every week, but dead skin and all of that stuff is in the mattress for as long as you have it, if you dont have a Kirby to clean it on a regular basis.  I just dont think that it is sanitary to sleep directly on the mattress and wouldnt say that its alright to do, but thats just me.

  14. No, I would not let them sleep with out a sheet. The sheet keeps he matress clean, and helps to prevent body fluids from leaving into it. You can not put a matress in the washing machine, but you can put a sheet in. If they were hot, I would open a window, buy them coller pajamas, or let them sleep in their undies. I'd put a fan in their room. But the bottom sheet is a must.

    Help me to?
