I live in Florida & my area was hit by Tropical Storm Fay. My office did not get hit directly, but my boss said it was mandatory for everyone to go home 2 days in a row. Is there any government help or any action I can take to get paid for time missed? I appreciate your feedback!!!

  1.   The thing we do out here in Caifornia for day's sent home to have the building inspected after a earthquake is either un-paid, or we can use some of our vacation/sick time to cover it. The goverment calls it an Act of God, these are not covered by insurance or un-employment for short period time off. Remember if it don't help BIG-MONEY the law will not be on your side. This is the real world. Up side be happy your company is open adn you have your home and job after the storm is over. Also the Boss was most likley not the one saying go home, the general area was being evacuated under law.

  2. Likely you can't be paid, unless you use vacation time or if they will let you use sick time.

If you are a salaried employee it might not make a difference, but hourly employees don't get paid unless they work.

  3. No, your office is not required to pay you for those days, and unemployment will not kick in for a longer period.

Lots of people have lost more, two days is not the end of the world.

  4. No. This is an employer decision. The same people who want to be paid for being off, would not want to get attendance points on their record if they didn't show up due to weather. Since Florida is a "right to work" State, it is doubtful there is much you can do.
