Ok, I'm 21 and only had a drivers permit for a brief amount of time before it expired and I haven't tried to get another one since. But i want my license and am trying to figure out what I need to do to get one. Does anyone know cause I've looked on the DMV website and it hasn't really helped much.

  1. Holding your permit for the full six months in not mandatory.  Taking a driver’s training course is not mandatory.  Retake the permit test if expired, practice driving, take the road test, and be happy.

    */End of Line.

  2. All states are different, but in VA you only have to hold a permit for 30 days before you can take the driving test and get your license

  3. (1) get a permit

    (2) practice driving

    (3) take a manditory 3 or 5 hour course

    (4) take the road test

    (5) be happy.

    They are similiar in all the states.

    Good Luck...
