If your parent kicks you out at 17 can they legally make you live at a certain place or can you choose

So they can make you live with another family member? Even if they are kicking you out.

  1. Until you are eighteen you do what they say.


  2. I believe they would have to give guardianship to that new family member, but they could make you move out and in with someone else.

In the United States the law states that "a person under the age of 18 must have a guardian...parents are the guardians until the date the person turns 18" You parents have the right to tell you where to live until you are 18 unless you appeal to a judge and prove the you can live on your own without the aid of your parents.

    At 17, depending on the police, some will not force a 17 year to come home.  But technically at 18 you can decide where you want to live.  They can legally make you come home, but sometimes they will not physically force a 17 year old to go home.

    if your parents are heartless enough to throw you out, it should be none of their business where you go.
