Ok so thanks for opening! I want to become an equine vet. What are some tips I can do to prepare myself? I know the advanced math and science but what else. I have a lot of experience with horses and in fact, just got my first horse a few days ago. Everyday I research a new disease and look for symtoms, treatments, chance of living etc...

I would love to be overly ready and I still have a while until college. I have voleteered everyday at my barn over the summer for almost 4 hours each day and have done this for the past 3 summers. If you have any tips please let me know!

Thanks!!

  1. One of the very best things you can do is volunteer with a local equine vet.   Be genuine and helpful, you will learn so much and it looks much better on a vet school application if you can get a letter of recommendation from a doctor in the specialty you want to pursue.  Do everything and anything you can with horses and document it all!! Good luck!!

  2. Take all the Honors classes you can in High school. Many students are woefully unprepared for even basic college level math and science classes. Then you may want to start out with a community college to get your basic classes before transferring to a 4 year college for pre vet.

  3. your doing well so far.

Make sure you look into the colleges you want. REALLY well ask anyone you can find what there program is like what they liked what they didn't like. Get scholarships for the school if you can as well.
