  1. Legally or morally? I think legally, once they turn over their key to you, if they still left stuff in your house, it's up for grabs. Morally ... what were the terms of the departure? If all was okay when they left and you just parted ways ... I'd give it two months and call them on speaker phone while camcording the whole thing, say three times in the two month period... just with a gentle reminder that this is the last chance to come get it.

If the departure was brutal? I wouldn't have taken the time it took you to type out the question on Yahoo!Answers... that stuff would have been on Ebay first.

  2. Hand over to the police and get a receipt

  3. after 30 days, with no agreement to keep their things,it is abandoned property...

  4. I think the best solution si to get a hold of the person and ask if he/she still wants it! If they say, yes I want it, ask them to come pick it up, and if they say no, throw it away, then you can go ahead and get rid of it any which you want! If you happen to make anymoney selling it - that should take care of YOU storing the stuff for the person!!

  5. No i don't think that makes a difference where you are haha. I'd at least wait a week to go through their stuff and decide if anythings cool to keep. I think it'd be polite to put their stuff in a box and just leave it in your closet or somewhere, just in case they come back for it.

  6. I was born in Oregon which means diddle as far as this goes.  But you should send a certified letter to them then wait at least 3 months before doing anything with their stuff just to cover your self.  Be sure to keep receipt in case they want to get ugly.

  7. CALL HER & TELL HER SHE HAS 5 DAYS!!!! or get her to agree to a certain amount of time.

    Record conversation if possible.

Meet up with her & have her sign something that says she will move everything out by a certain date.

If she is no longer on the lease & don't think she can do anything to you. How can she PROVE she left stuff at your house & you sold it?

You can just say you came home one day & the stuff was gone & you thought she took it. I'm just saying there's not really anything she can do, it's your house

  8. I would pretty much say that if they left it......they don't want it....unless they said they would be back.....but then you need to pin that date down....

  9. The question is ... did he/she just up and move out , did they give you any kind of notice and were they paid up on the rent? Was their name on the lease or was it in just your name? Many questions to be answered... If they gave you notice and was paid up on rent, you cant sell or throw their stuff out any judge will tell you that and if you do will order you to pay them back.... If their wasnt on the lease, its strictly between YOU and them not the landlord.... Now if they just left without giving you notice  you still must keep their belongings for a reasonable amount of time and my advice to you is seek legal advice before doing anything drastic because if you end up throwing or tossing his things out , they can legally come back on you...

  10. I'm not sure but i think you would have to take steps to contact them first and document or have witnesses to say that you tried to, even sending them a letter or two and keeping copies, you don't want to have a court case happening.

  11. go  to the housing authority and check out the state laws regarding your roommates rights, and yours too while you are there.

they have pamphlets that are free.
