  1. Usually from the tee, all though I believe water hazards you go from where the water starts on theway to the pin

  2. Everybody is right except for the provisional guy. A provisional shot is the tee shot is in question wether it is playable or not so you retee and hit three incase you are unable to play your first ball. But if you find your first ball and it is playable you have to play it. Now when your tee shot goes out of bounds if it first lands in play and rolls or bounces out or into a hazard, you can take a drop. If your tee shot goes directly out of bounds or cannot be detirmined in play prior to going out of bounds, you re-tee hit three(or your third stroke for the hole). If I hit an errant tee shot and it makes its way out of bounds, I always re-tee. Most tee boxes are level and when in choice between teeing up and taking a drop I will always tee. I doubt you would meet a pro or low handicapper who would choose to hit their third stroke from the woods or swamp edge or some kind of awful predicament in place of a tee.

  3. O.B.....Re-Tee....hit three.  Easiest way to remember it.

It dosnt matter if it flies or rolls out of bounds like someone on here said.  There is no scenario where you would get a drop for a shot that goes OB.  You always have to re-play the shot from the previous spot.

  4. Re Tee From The Tee Hitting 3.

  5. from the tee

  6. Some of these answers are wrong. From wherever you hit the ball originally is where you hit the next shot. However there is a penalty of one stroke for going out of bounds. Think of your first shot (1), penalty (2), and then your next shot (3). You may also use a tee for the second shot if it was from the teeing ground.

    Here's the USGA rule:

27-1. Stroke and Distance; Ball Out of Bounds; Ball Not

    Found Within Five Minutes

g a. Proceeding Under Stroke and Distance

At any time, a player may, under penalty of one stroke, play a

ball as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original

ball was last played (see Rule 20-5), i.e., proceed under penalty

    of stroke and distance.

Except as otherwise provided in the Rules, if a player makes

a stroke at a ball from the spot at which the original ball was

last played, he is deemed to have proceeded under penalty of

    stroke and distance.

g b. Ball Out of Bounds

If a ball is out of bounds, the player must play a ball, under penalty

of one stroke, as nearly as possible at the spot from which

the original ball was last played (see Rule 20-5).

  7. you hit again from the tee box and you're hitting 3..

  8. The next shot is from the tee from where you hit the first ball out of bounds. If the second shot was hit out of bounds, you would drop a ball nearest the position from which the second shot was played . I believe the penalty is still stroke and distance.

  9. from where you hit your first shot from. its called a provisional.

  10. Usually white stakes indicate OB, if you hit OB from the tee you must re hit from the tee or where ever you played your shot.

Red stakes indicate lateral hazards which you can drop the ball where the ball crossed the hazard with a 1 stroke penalty.
