  1. Generally, sensitive teeth are caused by tooth decay, and yes, thinning of the enamel. High levels of sugar intake speed up the process as well.

  2. Don't be silly if your enamel was off your teeth, you would be in agony. Brush your teeth with Sensodyne. It works

  3. Cavities and fractured teeth can cause sensitive teeth. But if your dentist has ruled these problems out, then worn tooth enamel, a cracked tooth or an exposed tooth root may be the cause.

Sensodyne works but the taste (I feel) is aweful. Try ACT mouthrinse or Prevident toothpaste.. anything with fluoride in it will help the sensitivity :)

  4. Possibly.  Teeth can be sensitive where enamel has been worn away, for example, lots of people wear some off their molars cusps down.  This creates this little shallow concavities where the points used to be.  These little holes can be quite sensitive.

Other reasons for sesnsitivity are cavities and gum recession, where the root of the tooth is now exposed.
