would the p**s let animals know that they shouldnt go in there, or would it just make them curious, or just let a bear know where to go out to eat tonight?

  1. There was a book by Farley Mowat [Odd that I recall the name but not the title -- something like "Cry Wolf"] and a movie made from it.  The protagonist went to Alaska to live with wolves. He brewed up a huge batch of tea to enable him to mark his territory and, over a matter of hours, marked a circle around his camp. A male wolf followed his effort and, in a matter of minutes, marked the other side of every tree and rock that Mowat had marked.

  2. i would mark my territory

the animals know you are there in any case

they can smell you way of

so you might as well fence your self in physiologically with your scent

most animals will respect this code of Nature

  3. keep your pee 300 feet from your fresh water suppy and you'll be ok.

  4. p**s close...mark your territory.

  5. the bears would really appreciate the dinner bell

  6. I would p**s close to the shelter but not in it,  This way you will mark your territory around it alerting others that it is YOUR house.

  7. I would p**s far away so if animals come sniffin, they'll be far off. on the downside however you need to have a frigggin pool 4 a bladder.

  8. Depends on how long you will be there.  If it is just an over nighter you should be ok simply designating a "P tree" 15 or 20 yards away.  However, if you will be there for a few days or more you need to go down wind (determined based on the average prevailing wind in your region) at least 50 yards and dig a slit trench (a ditch at least 5 feet long and 8 to 12 inches deep).  Pissing all over and around your shelter for any length of time is certainly not good field hygien and you will become ill; wildlife will be the least of your worries.

  9. I agree that it depends on how long you are going to be in the one spot, but wanted to point out that you shouldn't pee on trees, especially if you're going often. Your urine makes the tree a salt l**k and animals (deer especially) will l**k and bite at the bark and can do some not so nice damage to the tree. I'm a pretty big fan of peeing on trails. Keep the impact in one place right? But heck, if its the middle of the night, open up the tent door and let loose!

PS - If its winter time, guys have the nice ability to not even have to get out of their tent. Mark a nalgene with BIG X'S and use it as your bed pan. You never have to get out of the warm sleeping bag, plus, once your done and have sealed the container without doubt, toss it at your feet and you've got a nice foot warmer for a while!!
