Ignacio Beristain says Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao bout should not happen – Boxing news
Ignacio Beristain, who is widely considered as one of the greatest trainers in the history of boxing, has said that the fight between the eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao and the five-division world champion Floyd Mayweather should not happen.
The Mayweather-Pacquiao fight is one of the most eagerly awaited bouts, as people are desperate to see both boxing’s best fighting each other in the ring.
However Beristain, who trains Juan Manuel Marquez, (Pacquiao’s next opponent) reckons if this fight happens, it is going to take away all of Mayweather’s glory, which Mayweather has earned after a lot of hard work.
The reason behind is that Beristain believes the Fighting Pride of Philippines, Pacquiao, will bulldoze the Pretty Boy, Mayweather, in the ring.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “It won't be an easy fight but Pacquiao will win.”
“It's a very good, important fight but that fight should not happen, because I believe that Pacquiao will beat Mayweather. You're gonna take away the glory that has made Mayweather these past years,” added the Mexican trainer.
The 34-year-old American pugilist, Mayweather, has never been defeated in the ring as of yet. He has won all of his 41 fights including 25 by the way of a knockout and therefore a majority of people think Pacquiao will lose.
The 68-year-old Nacho, Beristain, however has a different point of view. He stated Mayweather has won most of his fights against easy opponents and he will not be able to win against Pacquiao.
He claimed the 32-year-old Filipino combatant, Pacquiao, who has won 53 of his 58 fights including 38 by the way of a knockout, is going to be too tough for Mayweather.
“Everybody picks Mayweather to win the fight because he wins so much against easy fighters, but Pacquiao is just too tough, too strong,” Beristain said.
Mayweather is currently set for Victor Ortiz in September 2011 whereas Pacquiao is scheduled against Juan Manuel Marquez for the third time.
However let’s see if the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight becomes a reality afterwards, as it is surely going to pull a huge audience.
