Ignacio Beristain wants Marquez to knock out Pacquiao – Boxing News
Mexican fighter Juan Manuel Marquez will be heading for a fourth fight against Filipino fight king Manny Pacquiao on December 8 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Both fighters are looking for a knock out, to ensure the fight ends with no irregularities. Apart
from the duo, the trainers of both sides are eager for a solid ending to this saga.
Among all, it is Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Beristain, Marquez’s trainer who wants the Mexican to knock out the former WBO welterweight titlist to end the rivalry in an upstanding fashion. In his recent interview, Beristain came up saying that he is working on Marquez
to put the Filipino down on the canvas this time.
“We want to gain a little more speed. In the third fight, we were able to keep up with him, and we want to use that approach again to see if we can put him down on the canvas at least once,” Ignacio asserted in an interview with Miguel Rivera.
“I would like to believe, and hope to God, that we put him down once or twice. But it is a bit difficult because the Filipino is also a warrior and a very tough fighter.
“Last time, we thought we had the fight in the bag, but look at what happened. You can never tell what the judges are thinking,” he added expressing dismay over Marquez last majority decision loss to Pacquiao in 2011.
Not just Beristain, even Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach is hoping for the Filipino to end this never-ending rivalry with a knockout. According to Roach, it is about time for Pacquiao to grab a knockout win, as it has been ages the Filipino has not struck
down an opponent.
During a press conference for the fight, Pacquiao asserted that he wants to erase all doubts that fans have for him regarding Marquez. The Filipino believes he needs to grab an impressive victory over Marquez to ensure he cements his legacy as the best pound
for pound fighter in the world.
On the other hand, even Marquez is looking for a knockout in order to prove his mettle against the Filipino.
