Ignacio Mieres contract with Exeter Chiefs extended by a year – Rugby news
Exeter Chiefs fly half, Ignacio Mieres’, commendable performance for Exeter Chiefs during the Aviva Premiership 2010/11 season has resulted in an extension in contract with the Chiefs. Earlier today, Exeter Chiefs head coach, Rob Baxter, announced the extension
of the Argentinian fly-half’s deal with the club.
Exeter Chiefs made debut in this year Aviva Premiership season as Mieres joined the Chiefs in 2010 but got his first Aviva Premiership game in April, 2011.
The new contract will add a healthy dose of stability to the 24-year-old’s professional rugby career. Ignacio Mieres made his European debut in 2008 as the Leicester Tigers signed him on a trial basis. Later in the same year, he switched to the Top 14 side
Stade Francais.
During this time, Ignacio Mieres was not able to concentrate on his rugby as he was unsure what would happen to him next in the season. In 2009 the young Mieres played on loan for another French club, Perpignan, where he got two games under his belt.
While struggling to secure a place in the clubs he did not face any difficulty with respect to his place in the national team. He made his debut for Jaguars in 2008 with seven appearances and six points.
He made his Argentina international debut in 2009. In four games for the national team, he scored massive 32 points as he announced himself strongly on the international arena.
Later the same year he switched back to the Stade Francais and remained with them for the 2009 and 2010 season. He made nine appearances for Stade Francais and scored 14 points.
Mieres joined Exeter Chiefs a few months into this year’s Aviva Premiership. His stand alone performance for Exeter Chiefs came in the last game of the season against the Wasps.
Mieres has expressed his delight at signing a new contract with the Chiefs. This is the first time in his career that he is sure about his future. He said, "The good news for me is that I now know what is happening for next season. I can just focus fully
on my rugby and hopefully have a good year."
With respect to his stay at Exeter Chiefs, he said, "It was something I hoped for ever since I arrived at the club. I really like it here, so I am really glad that I have it all sorted.”
Argentinean fly half collected an 11-point haul in Saturday's win over Wasps at Sandy Park. He scored three penalties and two conversions for Chiefs as they defeated Wasps by a margin of 13 points.
