Ignacio Sets Albert Clash; Marcel prevents match point to defeat Starace
The fourth seeded tennis player, Juan Ignacio Chela brushed aside his German tennis foe, Bjorn Phau in the quarter final round of the BCR Open Romania tennis tournament in a total of two sets on Friday. The final match score was
6-3, 6-3.
Juan who is ranked number fifty three in the world by the Association of Tennis Professionals was given a first round bye in Bucharest. In his second round match, Juan surrendered just a single game against Simon Greul to set up
a clash against Bjorn. The fourth seeded Juan needed just a total of eighty minutes to dismiss the world number 100 on Friday. Playing in his third ATP World Tour quarter of the year, Juan broke serve on a total of five occasions from ten opportunities and
won seventy two percent points behind his opening serve.
Juan while commenting on his semi final run at the BCR Open Romania tennis tournament in Bucharest said on Friday that he is extremely glad to reach the final four and is hoping to make it into the title battle.
"I'm going step by step here and I'm happy to be in the semi-final. This is the last clay event of the season and luckily I'm playing well. I'm very happy about that,” said the fourth seeded Juan on Friday.
The thirty one year old Juan, who captured his fifth ATP World Tour trophy on the clay in Houston during the month of April this season. Here he was eventually defeated by his American tennis foe, Sam Querrey, and will meet last
year’s winner, Albert Montanes,. He survived the loss of the second set to knock down his eight seeded opponent, Jeremy Chardy from France in a total of three sets. The final match score was 6-3, 1-6, 6-3. The match concluded in the time period of one hour
and thirty seven minutes on Friday.
The number one seeded Albert Montanes, who is currently ranked number twenty two in the world by the Association of tennis professionals, is closing on his third ATP World Tour clay-court trophy of the year after already winning
in Stuttgart and Estoril.
The professional tennis player from Spain, Marcel Granollers managed to upset a second seeded contender this week as he prevented one match point at 5-6 during the second set tie-break to get the better of his third seeded foe,
Potito Starace in a total of three sets. The final match score was 3-6, 7-6(7), 6-4.
In the opening round, Marcel had knocked out home favourite and sixth seeded tennis opponent, Victor Hanescu. The world number eighty seven Marcel is through to his first ATP World Tour final four since January back in 2009, when
he made his way into the semi final in Chennai and eventually lost it at the hands of Cilic in straight sets.
In an all-Spanish semi final battle, Marcel will take on the world number 105 Pablo Andujar, who advanced into his first ATP World Tour semi-final with a two setter win over Pablo Cuevas from Uruguayan. The final match score was
 6-4, 6-4 The qualifier, who brushed aside the second seeded Florian Mayer on Thursday, created a total of fourteen break point chances and capitalised on four of them to secure win in a time period of two hours and ten minutes.
"I'm feeling very well here and happy to go so far. It's also a surprise for me. Now I will continue to give my maximum in every match and try to get as far as possible. There are a lot of experienced players here and I'm not one
of the favourites, but I have my chance as well and hope to continue winning,” said Andujar after the match.
