Sergei Ignashevich has admitted that he is hugely disappointed by his side’s poor Russian Premier League campaign and hailed Spartak Moscow’s Valery Karpin
CSKA Moscow failed to secure UEFA Champions League qualification after losing their final game of the Russian Premier League campaign 3-1 against Rubin Kazan at Tsentralnyi stadion.
The Armeytsy will play in the UEFA Europa League after claiming the 3rd spot in the league table, two points behind Spartak Moscow. However, they were inches away of securing Champions League football, had they won their
last match against the Kazan-based club.
CSKA defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sergei-Ignashevich-c32956, has apologized to the fans following their poor league campaign, having failed to secure a higher place in the Russian championship. The stopper assured the fans of working hard next season, and
is hopeful of better results.
The Russian Cup winner went on to admit that the Moscow-based club are to blame themselves for the poor performances during the third league round, as they managed to record only three wins from 12 outings.
Media reports suggest that CSKA are lining up Kuban Krasnodar’s Dan Petrescu after sacking Leonid Slutsky following a disappointing season.
Petrescu, who had proved his managerial capabilities after winning league titles in Romania and Poland before moving to Russia, is rumoured to leave the Cossacks should the Red-blues decide to sack Slutsky this summer.
Commenting on the situation, Ignashevich has backed the under-fire manager. He conceded that the Moscow-based club have a decent manager and things did not work according to plan this season.
“I have always said that our results correspond to the level of our play. We got what we deserved. In the final round, we did not play very well, not showing the football worthy of the Champions League. But we did not have any
conflicts with the coach.
“We played really bad during the last round. But I promise that we will stick together in order to improve. Management is ready to make a substantial infusion of funds to strengthen the team during summer.” The UEFA Cup winner
was quoted as saying.
The 32-year-old Russian stopper congratulated Spartak Moscow’s Valery Karpin after his team finished at the 2nd
spot in the league table.
