A.C Milan Derby della Madonnina villain, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Diego-c11058 Milito’s winner.
Despite the Champions being dominant of the two sides, Inter limped to a 1-0 win in Milan derby on Sunday, January 15th, 2012. As a result, Milan squander their top-spot in the league standings and move to second position.
Abate insisted that he thought that he would comfortably win the ball, but it squirmed away from him. The right-back has taken full responsibility for his team’s defeat in the derby and has apologised to the fans.
While talking to Sky Sports Italia, Abate said,
“I had the feeling that I could get to the ball. However, the ball squirmed away from me and that was how the goal that decided the game was born. However, in that fraction of a second on the field of play, I did think that I could
intercept the ball. I take full responsibility and I apologise to the fans.”
The defender believes that despite going down in the league standings, his team remains favourite to win the Scudetto. He insisted that the Rossoneri possess some top quality players, who will bounce back strongly from the defeat.
The 25-year-old blasted Inter’s tactics, and insisted that they were on the defensive for the full 90 minutes of the match.
“The loss today doesn’t change things. We’ll fight until the very end for the Scudetto even if we know it will be tough. Today we were not able to recover after going a goal down because they closed us down well at the back and
we couldn’t open up their defence.”
Despite the win, Inter remain fifth in the league but they close the gap on top to just six points. The Nerazzurri are enjoying a superb run of form, as they have won six straight league games.
Milan will face bottom-placed, Novara, in their next game at Stadio Silvio Piola on Sunday, January 22nd, 2012.
