  1. igneous from magma (molten rock)

sedimentary from sediments (erosion products and plant/animal remains)

metamorphic are heated and pressurised sdiments or igneous: heat and pressure change mineralogy.

  2. igneous rock is a rock formed from solidified magma either on the surface from lava or underground.

sedimentary rocks are rocks formed from sediments, such as fragments of rocks worn from the land (clastic rocks). the remains of once-living things (organic rocks) or from chemicals precipitated from water. most sedimentary rocks accumulate, layer by layer, in water, but some accumulate on land. at first, sediments are loose, but they gradually become compressed and cemented together.

metamorphic rocks are either igneous or sedimentary which have been changed by great heat, pressure or chemical reactions in the Earth's crust. for example, contact metamorphism is caused mainly by heat from pockets of magma.
