lately on my 01 r6 when you stick the key in it is very hard to turn to get the bike to turn on. Its like its stuck in a position. You have to move the key up and down and just mess with it some every time you try to turn the key. Is my ignition just locking up and i need a new one. What does everyone think

  1. Getting a new ignition switch and key set may be expensive. My key has to sit in the keyhole a certain way to turn it. I consider it a security feature. Even if somebody had my keys, they couldn't start the bike because the key has to be in their a certain way.

Try the oil mentioned earlier, If you have a backup key, see if it does the same thing. Your key may be worn a little.

A new switch should be the last option end all type thing.

  2. possible ignition problem but I would check the condition of your key, if the grooves are worn it may not seat correctly in your ignition. Hope this helps a little dont know too much about that

  3. just  buy a new ignition switch and forget your troubles.a new key will come with it.

  4. Some of the inside ignition parts are aluminum, when you wash the bike you get a little water down in there and they tend to oxidize a little.

You can go to Autozone or Pep Boys and get key lock lube, 3 N 1 oil works just as well. Put a little on the key, stick it in the ignition and move it up and down, then off and on several times to work it in.

My ignition does the same thing over time.

    Good Luck
