Recently, the ignition spark on my GE monogram 5 burner gas stove top, located in my kitchen island just started sparking on its own when all burner k***s were turned off. The first occurance, that I am aware of, was last night and the sparking continued on it's own for about an hour. When this first started happening I turned the burners on to see if I could stop the sparking and it just continued while the flames were on. I then turned the burners off and they kept sparking after a while the ignition spark stopped on its own about an hour later. This morning the sparking started at about 4:30 and has continued for the past 1/2 hr.
The stove top is about 20 years old, model that came with the house. I have had a bit of trouble getting the ignition switch to work in the past but have not experienced this problem before. How do I stop the sparking? How can I protect my home while I am away in case it starts sparking when I am not home?
Thanks for your help
