its better to ignore that you know  or not know something then it is to know anything about it

if i don't know of something, say my best friend has just died a painful, horrible death.  i am blissful before i hear of the death.  after i am enlightened with the fact that my friend has died, i am (of course) very distressed.

It is another way to say, "What you don't know won't hurt you."  I don't agree with it in the least!!!  Ask any girl who has unexpectedly gotten pregnant with the father nowhere to be found if she thought being ignorant that night in the sack turned out to be blissful in the long run.
