Question:

Ignorant Scots: Is this indicative of all Scots?

A survey published today revealed that less than half of the Scottish people surveyed could identify the recommended daily intake of alcohol despite a series of high-profile anti alcohol campaigns.

Is this an indication that the stereotype of the hard-drinking, ignorant Scot is indeed true, or is it simply a rogue survey?

  1. Its my guess that if the same survey was carried out south of Hadrians wall the results would be very similar. Don't forget it all depends on how the questions in the survey were worded as to what answers they get.

  2. no way at all..its a rogue survey.mary.c.

  3. Perhaps the high-profile campaigns weren't high-profile enough?

  4. Sorry Claw but this is still Monday and most will still not have gotten over the weekend so how can anyone expect an accurate survey? Hic!

  6. Im Scottish and I will have one or two beers every month or two

  7. If all stereotypes were true I'd be outside your house stealing the stereo from your car, whilst cracking non-stop jokes.

  8. aah, but did you know there is no evidence to the recommended daily allowance it was just made up by doctors and a rough figure was used, at random.

Being a scot myself I would suggest that is not the case.  We have had 24 hours drinking for many years unlike the English and it seems to be a massive problem in England having extended licencing hour,  are the English light weights?

  9. Hey you! don't knock the Scots..My bloke's Scottish :)

Shhhhhh Stud,,i was defending you!! TUT!

  10. I am certain most people, regardless of which ethnicity they are, don't go around measuring their drinks & knowing how many units of alcohol are in each drink.

    A rogue survey.

Wait till you get to Australia, drinking is a huge pastime there..

  11. The recommended daily alcohol allowances are a load of bollocks anyway, quite frankly.

Good on the Scots for not knowing and not caring either.

  12. Alcohol abuse in Scotland is a problem especially amongst the younger generation . Their is a lot of effort being put into controlling this and I believe already there has been some success . The Police have tightened up dramatically on under age drinking . Sterotype Scot ? Ignorant Scot ? Hard drinking Scot ? Think you are a wee bit OTT on this one . To be aware of a problem is half the battle .

  13. yes, he is Bee, he's also an ignorant hard drinker.

Because it's still so good after all this time

I believe, I believe with your sweet love

That you could make a tiger tame

Fill a desert full of rain

Bring me joy when I'm in pain

and I still love ya after all this time.
