Question:

Ignoring fake and shallow people?

I know people always say you should ignore fake, shallow people.. but what do you do when you have a relative like that? To make it worse, if you speak up for yourself, even in a polite way, they'll go around telling all the other relatives that you're nasty or something like that.

How do you deal with that? Not care what someone thinks of you?

  1. Well like the other answers it is best to avoid the person. Even if you speak up your adding fuel to the fire. With people like that I usually keep quiet let them go on with their 'persona' and not let it affect me. No matter how hard you try to defend they just turn it back on you. Best advice to stay neutral and away.

  2. Stay FAR, FAR away....that's about all you can do.  They can make your life plenty miserable if they get too close to your affairs.

Remember the old saying "familiarity breeds contempt".  The less they know about you, your life and your habits the better.

They will talk regardless, but it will drive them insane knowing they can't get any "goods" on you.

  3. its hard but>>>>>>just ignore that person i guess, and hope that your family members recognize that your not that nasty person.

what exactly is it about your situation that would cause your fake and shallow relative to make you feel you have to stand up to her?

anyhow, if you really don't care what someone or some people think of you then stand up to that relative and be thought of as nasty to others

  4. By now, the rest of you family knows what this relative is like. Speak up for yourself and allow that relative to make more a jerk of herself.

If someone in you family is gullible enough to listen to her garbage and confronts you, you can say something like, "Well, you know how she is about talking about people. I don't believe half the stuff she says about YOU."

  5. You hit it on the head, don't care, even if they are a family member.  By responding to their issues you encourage them and give them the attention they want.  If you cease to pay attention they will cease to bother you.
