  1. NO. U CAN'T SWIM IN MERCURY. MANY PEOPLE WILL SAY YES, U CAN COZ THEY THINK THAT THE REACTION OFFERED BY THE MERCURY ON PUSHING IT WILL BE GREATER THAN THAT OFFERED BY WATER AND IT WILL CANCEL THE FRICTION FACTOR(MERCURY WILL OFFER MORE FRICTION DUE 2 HIGHER DENSITY) BUT THEY FORGET DAT REACTION IS EQUAL 2 ACTION---THUS,IF V APPLY D SAME AMOUNT OF FORCE ON BOTH WATER & MERCURY,THE REACTION WILL B SAME.

  2. Yes.  Mercury is very dense.  You would not sink in very far, but you would probably be able to swim.

  3. Like custard.

  4. You might not sink far enough to really swim.  It might be more like skimming on mud.

  5. Mercury is so dense that you would sit on top of it rather than sinking into it. It would be like lying on a floor covered in ball bearings.

It would virtually impossible to swim because mercury is almost frictionless, so you wouldn't be able to use normal swimming strokes. As you moved your arms forward to put them into the mercury, your whole body would slide backward to keep your centre of gravity the same.

Your only hope would be for someone to throw you a rope and for you to pull yourself to the side.

  6. You would need strength of Hercules. The density of mercury is 13.534  g/cm³, and that of water is 1 g/cm³. The retarding force of drag would be huge.
