Igor Andreev plonks Dudi Sela to reach round two – Farmers Classic 2012
Russian star, Igor Andreev, downed the Israeli number one, Dudi Sela, in straight sets at the Farmers Classic 2012 on Tuesday. He recorded a 7-6(4), 6-4 victory against the 27-year-old to book a place in the second round at the Los Angeles Tennis Center
in California, United States.
Andreev lifted his game in the end to carve out the victory in one hour and 25 minutes. Battling each other for the first time, the Russian comfortably powered into the pre-quarters at this Emirates Airline US Open Series tournament.
The Russian veteran high-spiritedly entered this outdoor hard court tournament. He dominated his serves games without encountering any breakpoint. Spicing his performance further, Andreev also sought two break opportunities. Apart from squandering his chances
of breaking his rival’s serve, the Russian prevailed in the tie-breaker and clicked the opener with a 7-6(4) success.
Ranked 89th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Andreev lost his path towards the follow-up set. He suffered the first blow in the third game and consequently went 1-3 down. After Sela held his serve in the sixth game, the Russian
unleashed his true form and wiped out the last four games in a row. He failed to ward off the only breakpoint he encountered but cashed in both break opportunities to register a 6-4 score line.
All in all, the Moscow native penned down a slightly better first serve share of 62 per cent as opposed to his rival’s 61 per cent and tremendously clicked 29 out of 40 points on it. He also fired six aces and ruled throughout the match.
Andreev will next face the conqueror of the match between seventh seeded Bjorn Phau and the Lithuanian qualifier, Ricardas Berankis.
Later that day, Australia’s Matthew Ebden bounced back to outsmart Michael Berrer of Germany. Ebden lost his serve twice but capitalised on three out of 13 break chances to manipulate a 4-6, 6-2, 7-6(4) victory against the 32-year-old. The Aussie spilled
several double faults and produced slightly lower first serve share. However, he brilliantly marked 48 out of 62 points on it and secured a place in the pre-quarters.
