Igor Jenny secures berth in third round of Maldives International Badminton Challenge 2012
Men’s Singles expert Igor Jenny of Switzerland surged into third round of Maldives International Badminton Challenge by overpowering Pamuditha Lahiru Ambegoda in second round on May 31, 2012.
This 37-minute fight ended with final results of 19-21, 21-16 and 21-11 and the Swiss shuttler setup a pre quarter-final tussle with Indian campaigner Anup Sridhar.
The Sri Lankan player Pamuditha Lahiru opened his marathon in perfect fashion but he could not endure strong backlash from opposing shuttler Igor Jenny and crashed out after losing final two games.
In the opening game of match, the inexperienced but spirited Pamuditha Lahiru registered his presence by clinching a nerve-racking contest.
He was trailing behind initially but couple of nonstop rallies boosted his confidence and he started making progress at top gear.
At mid-game break, he was standing couple of steps ahead of his opponent but he lost momentum for a short period of time which helped the opposing player to narrow gap.
However, Pamuditha found his lost form when it mattered and managed to pocket first match point with an overwhelming total of 21-19.
Next game saw the best of Swiss player as he dazzled the winner of previous set with a lustrous performance.
Igor Jenny played with precision and did not give his competitor even a single chance to reclaim the contest. He made his intentions clear by clinching few quick points with some power packed rallies in the beginning.
He established an unassailable lead until half time and looked relaxed while sitting on bench with a decent total of 11.
After the interval, he switched on the best and strengthened his grip over match with some continuous points.
Pamuditha could not dominate any of last five rallies and knelt down after reading 16-21 score on the board.
This revised status of the contest brought life into match and spectators were expecting lot of fireworks in the decider.
