The Dynamo Moscow midfielder has shared his opinion about CSKA Moscow’s defender and spoke about the competition in the central midfield position.
Dynamo Moscow midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Igor-Semshov-c16748, has bemoaned Vasili Berezutski’s latest injury ahead of the Euro 2012, conceding that the Russian national team will struggle defensively without the 29-year-old.
Russia have been drawn against Poland, Croatia and Czech Republic in the group stages of the continental tournament.
Semshov, who has been declared fit to play in the Euros after he was included in the provisional 26-man squad, heaped praise on Berezutski by admitting that the Russian Cup winner has been a key member to the team’s defence.
The Dinamiki midfielder has insisted that Berezutski acted like a rock in defence and the prolific stopper will himself be disappointed with his latest injury.
“Of course it’s painful to lose a player of that stature. He has been a key figure in defence in recent years. It’s a big loss but this is life and unfortunately, injuries, are inevitable in sports. I think he needs to forget about
the rest and concentrate on his health.” The former Torpedo Moscow player was quoted as saying.
Semshov went on to express his desire to help the national team after getting more first team action. The 34-year-old has admitted that the upcoming tournament may well be his last, so he needs to work harder to fight for a place
in the starting line-up.
Commenting on the growing competition for places in the national team, the Russian midfielder has insisted that he is not afraid of competition in the team as far as it is healthy competition.
Semshov has revealed that the coaching staff will select the best players among them, irrespective of the fact that which team they play for, after making assessments in the training process and friendly matches.
“We are a team, regardless of who will go to the Euro, and who remain at home. I am confident that there is no tension. We are all adults and understand that everybody has a chance.” Semshov concluded.
