Igor Sijsling outplays Michael Ryderstedt to clear the qualifiers – Moselle Open 2011
After an enthralling competition against the fifth seeded Swede, Michael Ryderstedt, the second seeded contestant, Igor Sijsling from the Netherlands, come out as the winner to clear the qualifying draws of the Moselle Open on
Monday night.
The Dutch took one hour and fifty five minutes to wrap up the three-setter 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-2, making his way to the main round draws of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 event.
The local crowd at the Arenes de Metz, in Metz, France, witnessed an action-packed contest from the two contestants, fighting for a place in the main draws. It was a serve dominated competition, with both men displaying high quality
tennis action to come out as the winner.
The most eminent feature of the game was the magnificent serve game of the Dutch winner, as he fired 21 thudding aces to the opposition’s court to clinch some un-fought points in the match. He reeled off 47 out of his 60 firs serve
points in the contest, with Ryderstedt seizing 48 out of his 76 points to finish on the losing side in the end.
Sijsling crafted a total of eight break opportunities in the matchup and converted three of them to drive his opponent out of the competition. Ryderstedt followed him with 10 aces and two out of six break point conversions in the
game.
The opener saw an early exchange of serve breaks from the two contestants, followed by a regular game to take the scores to 6-6. A tie breaker round was enforced into play to settle the opening set and Ryderstedt failed to handle
the pressure in the decider. He coughed a couple of costly unforced errors in the tie breaker to bestow the set number one to Sijsling at 6-7(4).
The Swede made his way right back in the game in the following set, breaking the second seeded Dutch opponent in the ninth game. Ryderstedt served out of the second set at 6-4 to level the matchup at 1-1 but utterly failed to sustain
his momentum in the final set.
Sijsling broke early in the third set to lead 3-0 and kept pressing his opponent to commit errors. Another vital break point conversion from the second seeded Dutch in the eighth game proved decisive in the match, concluding victory
for him at 6-2.
The Dutch will play his opening round match of the main draws against Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria on Wednesday.
