Igor Sijsling trounces Josselin Ouanna to enter main draw – US Open 2012
Qualifying top seed, Igor Sijsling from Netherlands tumbled the French contender, Josselin Ouanna, in straight sets at the US Open 2012, last of the four Grand Slam events taking place in Corona Park in Queens, New York City. He notched up a 6-3, 6-4 victory
against the world number 145 to power into the main draw on Friday.
The seeded Dutch showed top class skills and abilities to overpower Ouanna in their first encounter. After earning the success, Sijsling comfortably secured a spot in the main draw at this major hard court event held in Flushing Meadows.
Sijsling enthusiastically entered the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. He suffered the first blow in third game and went 1-2 down. However, the Dutch not only recovered in the very next game but capitalised on another break chance in the eighth
game to bag the opener with a 6-3 success.
Ranked 77th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Sijsling kept momentum rolling in the following set. He smoothly held his entire serves with self-assurance. The Dutch got the breakthrough in the fifth game and consequently clinched
the set with a 6-4 score line.
On the whole, the 25-year-old recorded impressive stats. He smashed five aces and committed fewer unforced errors. Sijsling also manipulated a better first serve share of 62 per cent as opposed to his opponent’s 55 per cent and amazingly clicked 31 out of
40 points on it.
Local contender, Bobby Reynolds, will join the Dutch in the main draw.
The American made a sloppy entry at the Flushing Meadows and after gifting away his serve in the fourth game, he fell at 1-4. However, he remained calm and snatched his break back in the seventh game. Reynolds held his remaining serves and took the set to
a tie-breaker. He prevailed in it and eventually sealed the opener with a 7-6(5) success.
The in-form American carried his rhythm in the following set and smoothly swiped his entire serves with conviction. He got the breakthrough in the fourth game and consequently clinched the set with a 6-3 score line.
