Question:

Iguana's Nose! What do I do

My iguana's nose looked like it was sheding for a while, but this morning I looked and it had peeled off and was showing pink skin underneath. I've only had him for a month and he was a little underfed, but I couldn't see anythig else... Do you know what this is? Is it bad enough to need a vet?

  1. I'd go to a reptile vet.

Although lizards can bruise their nose , that raw area can also be infected and there is no way to tell online. Also, if you got him underfed, it mightbe wise to have a reptile vet look him over and make sure he is filling out, eating the right stuff and is parasite free..

  2. Since you don't say the age of your iguana nor what size of enclosure. Is there something that he/she could of rubbed the nose on?

When they shed they don't turn pink, they turn green ... so he/she had to of rubbed the nose area on something but what I can't tell you.

If it is a nose rub, usually putting Neosporin on it will help, but some igs like to l**k it off, night time application is best. It can take a while to heal, again if it is a nose rub.

If it doesn't start to heal up in 1-2 wks, I would go see a herp/reptile vet, just to make sure that it isn't something else.

  3. It Was Probably A Scab, When Lizards Aren t Use To Their Enviorment The Run Into The Walls Or Other Things, I Dont Suggest A Vet Unless You Feel Really Worried. Another Way It Could Be A Scab Is If Its In A Glass Cage So It Doesnt See The Glass So It Thinks It Can Run Out So It Smashes Its Nose.
