i've had my ig for more than 7months and had very succsessfully got him to be a calm manageable youngster

although after a 3week stint in hospital roughly a month ago >with my ig left to the care of my mother< he's become a real brat

no matter how much i've been working with him and not letting him get his way when he struggles, whips at me and tries to bite.

besides patience, is there any other advice that anyone can give to calm my ig down again

  1. Unfortunately, he might not.

It might not have anything to do with the hospital... it could just be that he is becoming an adult. He will be becoming territorial and full of testosterone.

He might calm a little more as he matures further, but he will probably even than still have days where he wants to rip your face off.

Its a reptile afterall, and a large one at that.

Continue by all means - but it could make it worse. He might see you as the threat to his dominance and challenge you more and more.

Maybe try becoming his friend again, by not forcing yourself upon him, but just interacting with him in his own environment.

At the hospital, he would have been wrestled to have his meds oor see the vets or whatever he was in there for...

  2. Iguana taming can take YEARS.  Be patient and stay the course.  Every iguana is different (just like people) and there is really no sure way towards taming.   It really is a battle of wills.

    Good luck!
