  1. yes.. BUT do not even think of doing this unless you know that at some point you will have to devote a 10x5 foot (minimum) space to them..

    read this link

there are very few GOOD iguana owners out there.. most do not meet their space requirements .

  2. i would NEVER put it in a freakin 5 gallon cage that is WAY too small. I would start with nothing smaller than a 20 gallon. I have 2 iguanas and even as 2inch long babies they like to have room to roam. half the tank should have a light over it and half not so if it wants to escape the heat it can... if u have a tiny tank then the light will be over the whole thing and cook it!!

  3. Yes they can live in a 5-10 gallon tank the first 6-12 months of there life (depends on how much they grow). Hope i helped, good luck!

  4. If by small you mean at least a 55 or 75 gallon sized cage, that is ok for about 6 months.  Iggy's will need a hand built cage 1 & 1/2 times their length (which can be 9 feet) and also at least 6 feet tall (they need to climb) as adults.  Don't get an Iguana if you can't afford really large housing for it.

  5. It is best that you do not put an iguana into anything smaller then a 55 gallon tank, they can only live in the 55 gallon til it is 8-12 months of age. Enclosure needs to be at least 1.5-2 times it's total length. It is not recommended putting in anything smaller because smaller the enclosure it can not processes the proper temps.

Iguanas if given the proper UVB, heat, humidity, food can grow 1-3 inches a month if not more.

Iguanas usually do not like change, so moving from say a 10 gallon tank, then to a 20 gallon, then to a 30 gallon every month will possibly cause stress towards the iguana.

After 8-12 months of age, it can go into an adult enclosure (6-7ft tall x 8-10ft long x 4ft wide). If properly built you will hopefully not have to rebuild an enclosure, which for less stress on your iguana.

Before you buy an iguana, please read, read and read some more, make sure that you are really ready to be a slave to an iguana for 15-20 yrs.

A great book to read and have on hand:

  6. Yeah, but that can become costly. You can try my method and get a 55g for the baby. That will last maybe 2 years, then you can just move it into the huge adult sized cage that will last the rest of it's life. Cheaper in the long run and you can always get a used tank and build a cage.

    Good Luck!
