Ijaz Ahmed Recommends ruthless Punishment for Players
Pakistan’s former middle-order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chaudhri-Ijaz-Ahmed-c50531 has suggested severe punishments for batsman who keep repeating the mistake of poor shot selection, resulting in the loss of their wicket.
Ahmed, who is currently coaching Pakistan players in the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) fast- track coaching camp, insisted that batsmen needed to be taught a lesson after losing their wicket by making a poor shot selection.
In an interview, the 42-year-old Ijaz said, “When a batsman makes mistakes he should be promptly told by the team management. But if he still repeats the same mistakes he should be forced to sit out for a match or two.”
Ahmed reiterated that this was how the young cricketers were treated during his playing days, which helped the players in improving their temperament towards building a longer innings. He felt that the same strategy should be adopted by the management once
again to induce the character of building a longer innings in the youngsters.
“We have batsmen with great potential but their technique requires attention. We are training them on how to build their innings,” Ahmed said.
Pakistan batsmen have at times been guilty of throwing their wicket cheaply by playing a poor shot just when it is required of them to build a long innings to get the team out of hot water.
Over the past few years, Pakistan batsmen have left fans disappointed after failing to win a match while chasing even meagre totals.
Earlier this year, in the semi-final of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 led contingent dropped in front of the Indian bowling attack after posting
a tally of 231 runs.
Many in Pakistan blamed the lacklustre batting as the cause behind Pakistan’s demise in the knock-out match of the mega event.
After returning home, the former skipper Afridi insisted that the national team needed a batting coach, for which the skipper personally requested http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Javed-Miandad-c66580, to take the post.
Nonetheless, Javed declined due to personal reasons and also felt that he will not be able to do much good with the players in the national team. The former middle-order batsman suggested posting him in a position from where he could help upcoming cricketers
improve their technique. Miandad is currently working as the Director General of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
