Ijaz Butt asks solicitors to respond to ECB letter
This summer has been a very eventful one for Pakistan Cricket but for all the wrong reasons. Following a spate of spot fixing allegations that resulted in the provisional suspension of Pakistan players by the ICC, Ijaz Butt made the headlines of electronic
and print media after his interview to an Indian News Channel. He claimed that there was talk in the bookie circles that England Players had taken “enormous” amounts of money to throw away the 3rd ODI against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 which Pakistan comprehensively
won. His comments overshadowed the brilliant performance of the Pakistan players especially Umar Gul who was outstanding with his bowling.
The England Cricket Board and the team management held meetings that started in the late hours of Sunday night, extending to the early hours of Monday morning after which they issued a strongly worded statement condemning Ijaz Butt’s accusations against
the integrity of the English players as “wholly irresponsible”. They then sent a pre-action letter to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128, that has asked him for a “full and unreserved apology” from the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket board.
"In this letter multiple demands have been raised. The Board has instructed London lawyers, Addleshaw http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Goddard-c60233, to respond on its behalf to these demands," PCB said in a statement. There are also chances that PCB might be looking at options to sue the English
player Jonathan Trott who assaulted Wahab Riaz following an exchange of words between them before the start of the fourth ODI at Lords.
The ECB has categorically said, that if Ijaz Butt does not give a satisfactory response to their letter, legal proceedings will be commenced against him without any further notice to the chairman. Ijaz Butt finds himself in a bit of a muddle and senior Pakistan
cricket officials along with members of the ICC have distanced themselves from the statement of Ijaz Butt.
The former Chairman of the PCB Tauqir Zia has also said that Ijaz Butt should apologize for his remarks about the England cricket team and the board. The ECB has gone out of its way to accommodate Pakistan, by letting it use its facilities to host a test
series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746. They have also been supportive of Pakistan cricket by inviting the country for a series against their team in England. In the face of these allegations, the England Cricket Board and officials have stated that it is unlikely Pakistan
would be allowed to use their facilities as a neutral venue in the near future.
Pakistan Cricket might be running out of options and Tauqir Zia righty said, "This is time to take damage control steps and if there is a need he should apologise to the ECB who have every right to feel offended after the way they have supported Pakistan
cricket."
