Speaking to the press, Afridi said he will not return to international cricket till the time Butt was heading the PCB. In reply Butt said:
“(Do it immediately) Sau Bismillah to him if he does not want to play under my Chairmanship, He has violated the contract codes and like any other player he now has to explain his actions to the board”.

Nonetheless, before being sacked, Afridi led the team to a series win, by winning the first three matches against the West Indies before losing the last two games.
After his return, the flamboyant skipper, revealed that there were serious differences in the team regarding the selection of players. After these statements the PCB decided to take action against the cricketer, who had violated the PCB’s code of conduct

The PCB, has revoked legal clearance required by Afridi to play county cricket for Hamshire, which means that not only will the cricketer miss his county stint, but will also be barred from playing the Sri Lankan Premier League this year.
