The Pakistan Cricket Board chairman, Ijaz Butt, has reached New Zealand today after attending his business meetings in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/China-c40996 and will evaluate the performance
of current skipper Shahid Afridi in a bid to announce the captain for the World Cup squad.
The chairman will keenly observe the ongoing one-day series against Black Caps keeping in mind the upcoming World Cup. Chairman Butt left for New Zealand almost
five days ago to discuss the captaincy issue with team management after which he was to announce the captain for the mega event. Sources in the PCB told that the board officials were advised to keep his visit secret because the chairman wanted to hold meetings
quietly on Thursday and Friday respectively before deciding the captain for the national team ahead of the grand tournament jointly held by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747.

There were reports that Butt will arrange meetings with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972 and with current coach Waqar Younis. It was also speculated that the board
has intentions to consider Misbah for the post of captaincy. Misbah has brilliantly led Pakistan team in the Test series win against Black Caps. In addition, the test captain has also given an excellent performance in the first game of the six-match one day
series where he was the only player from Pakistan’s side who scored a steady fifty.
Sources in the PCB have also revealed to the media that there are high chances of Misbah to lead Pakistan because Afridi’s performance is not up to the mark
which is reducing his chances of captaincy. Besides, there have been different complaints against Afridi by his teammates regarding his attitude. Secondly the board was also not happy with Afridi’s direct contact with media. It was also reported that the skipper
had many controversies with the chairman, who took the post in October 2008.
The captaincy issue is haunting Pakistan cricket for months especially after the announcement of World Cup squad. PCB’s decision to delay the name of the captain
raised many controversies in the team. Many of the former skippers and cricket experts have critised board for the delay.
International Cricket Council yesterday also got confused and they wrongly published the name of Misbah as skipper of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 team for which they apologised
after few hours.
