Ijaz Butt reveals steps taken to root out corruption from country’s cricket – Cricket News Update
Ijaz Butt, the chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), on Tuesday revealed steps taken to root out corruption from the country’s cricket.
"We have appointed Wasim Bari, who travels everywhere or sends his team to explain the pitfalls of match-fixing. He interacts with players, educates them and even finds solution to various problems," PCB chief http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 told to
media.
Taking strict steps to remove the spot-fixing and match-fixing corruption from country’s cricket, the PCB has also sought the services of many other former cricketers and officials.
The board adopted the policy of zero tolerance for corruption in cricket, following the spot-fixing allegations on three of the Pakistani cricketers – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Amir-c76675.
The trio was found guilty of spot-fixing during Pakistan’s fourth Test match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 at Lord’s last years where they allegedly took money from a bookie and deliberately bowled no-balls.
The incident was revealed by a British tabloid, after which the International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625), taking strict notice of their actions, suspended them.
The three cricketers were then handed lengthy bans by the ICC's anti-corruption tribunal in February 2011, after spot-fixing allegations were proved against them.
None of these cricketers can now participate in the cricketing activities during their suspension period.
The spot-fixing incident ruined the image of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-James-Harrison-c41916 has hinted towards Pakistani
cricketers as match-fixers.
In order to avoid such actions in the future, PCB’s Integrity Committee has also been playing active role since last year.
"Besides the ICC's Code of Conduct, the PCB Integrity Committee is also taking strict action on suspects. We have strong anti-corruption clauses in players' contracts... If we have doubt about anyone's integrity, or have evidence
about spot or match-fixing we will show no kindness to anyone," Butt said.
Providing proper training to the cricketers and having a strict notice of the spot-fixing incidents, PCB is hopeful of removing the stigma of corruption from Pakistan cricket.
